Davidson College — Belk Arena
A 5,300-seat, multi-level, highly reverberant arena. Integrator Clarity selected SQ-90s to shape the wavefront to the room and minimise hangs.

Davidson College’s Belk Arena is home to men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and wrestling, seating almost 5,300 people. The sound needs to be clear for every one of them.
Brief
A multi-sport, multi-level facility, and therefore a highly reverberant space. The athletics department wanted something state of the art; acoustic treatment alone could not address the stadium’s acoustics. Control over the loudspeaker pattern was imperative, along with minimising hangs to lower the ambience.
Solution
Clarity selected the SQ-90. Its wavefronts are shaped in three dimensions to fit the shape of the space, so coverage lands on the seating tiers and not on the roof and walls, from fewer hang positions.
Outcome
Clear, controlled sound for a full arena, game after game. Quantities and measured results are being added to this study.
Outcome
- Coverage shaped to a multi-level arena that acoustic treatment alone could not address
- Fewer loudspeaker hangs, lowering the ambience
- Clarity for men's and women's basketball, volleyball and wrestling crowds
